try this:
dpkg -S /usr/bin
it spitsout a screenfull of packages for that dir.
never tried that before, that rules dpkg can do that.

Ouch! Accidentally did rm *?
You pretty much have to re-install everything, though there *might* be a
way to make dpkg check and re-install packages that don't check out
properly (I know RPM did it). Don't know how, though.
