What you should do is if you're runnin the pre-compiled kernel
image package and it works is extract the kernel-source-2.4.9 tar.bz2
into /usr/src... then copy the /boot/config-2.4.9-k6 as .config in the
source tree... Then you will want to run make-kpkg to build a new
kernel-image-2.4.9 pa

But did you copy /boot/config-VERSION to .config? before doing this:
