I mispoke. I have 4.0.2 xfree86. regardless, I left my computer off for the evening and the problem went away in the morning. and actually switching back to the 'nv' server that comes with the stock xfree had the same problem last night. maybe it's just bad hardware? or bad cooling? i tried ghetto

This maybe stupid... make sure u set the driver to "nvidia" instead of "nv" in the XF86Config-4 file [unless u already have, i would still check 4.0.3 POSSIBLE over wrote it w/ a default one] otherwise yeah it may be getting to hot... I have a GF2 GTS that runs at 1280x1024 in 24bit, i play qua

I've the NVIDIA driver on two machines, one a TNT2 M64 the other a GeForce 256. On the TNT M64 machine, when switching virtual screens using Ctl-Alt-F8 (e.g., running two X servers) the screen goes blank as usual, but then stays that way permanently! The whole machine is locked, keyboard and all.

I took the binary (tgz) distribution from the XFree86 website and installed it over my existing X 3.3.x. It worked without problem. Didn't have to install anything from NVidia (according to the readme on the NVidia website, support for the Geforece2 MX is included in the newest 4.whatever relea

I installed X4.0.2 and the nVidia drivers 0.9-5. Just take your time and follow the steps in the docs that came with those packages and things should work. If you have an Asus P5A (what I have) or anything with an ALi chipset, there are a few extra steps, but they work nicely. As of version 0.9-
