Alvin--
Just that simple change did it. Thanks a lot sir!
So I take it that Grub looks at hd0 as the BOOT drive
based on your BIOS settings and boot sequence. hd1 in
this case would be "hda", hd0 is "hdb" because hdb is
the actual boot device.
Thanks again for your help,
J. Merritt

that is windoze too
Here is the fdisk -l output from today. If this is of
any help. There was no physical drive swapping, all I
did was set the BIOS to look at hdb first, before hda.
It WAS looking at hda first before.
Disk /dev/hda: 40.0 GB, 40020664320 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4865 cylinders

Hey Alvin--
Windoze is installed on /dev/hda1
Here is an output from fdisk -l:
Disk /dev/hda: 40.0 GB, 40020664320 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4865 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id
System
/dev/hda1 *

i assume you have a type and/or a system install problem
-- what is the disk that windozed is installed on
( presumably hda ?? aka C: )
-- if you install
