OK, so this is the real fix. Move
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/"
to the top (above the misc). I don't understand why, but this gives
great fonts for xemacs21.
I've revised the web page accordingly.

Apparently the problem is the quoted $REALSTARTUP variable in the exec
command of /etc/X11/Xsession.d/99xfree86-common_start. I removed the quotes
and it's fine. I guess there were newlines chars in there or something, which
are maintained if you quote a shell variable.
