on your box... try to run "e2fsck /dev/hda1" if your / is on /dev/hda1

you cannot run e2fsck on a "disk"... you need to run e2fsck on
ext2 partitions
e2fsck /dev/hda1
e2fsck /dev/hda2 ...
NOTE... do NOT run e2sck on your mounted "root partition"
