I have found that it is better to stick to the open source ati
drivers, they even tend top work better than the ones provided by the
ati site. Are you using xorg, or xfree86?
how about hw acceleration? i think it's still only possible with fglrx.
although it doesn't work for me at the moment...

I've just got a lovely new beastie which has a PCI-Express Asus Radeon X600
in it... Running Sarge 2.6.8-1.i386 and XF86 4.3.0.1, P4 "530", 512MB, 80GB
SATA drive etc etc..
However, on running XF86, I am getting the following error:
(II) Primary Device is: PCI 0
