I am able to 'make' amedyn now after downloading libusb and its dependent files from a debian site.
Facing 'connection time-out' problem now but I have also found a forum in 'sourceforge' which is a more suitable place to discuss the Hurricane 8000.

With the kernel-2.6.3 installed, I am back to working on the ADSL modem.
What I am encountering is a gcc compilation problem. In the process of compiling the file amload.c, there are "undefined reference to" many usb functions followed by the line:
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
