Team:
I need to apply the freeswan patch to the kernel, and, as always, I hope
to do this "The Debian Way". I've been reading the make-kpkg man page, and
there appears to be 3 different ways to do this.
1. The patch_the_kernel configuration option, which I assume is somewhere
in the .config fi
First, apt-get kernel-package, and learn to use make-kpkg. (This is the
only official debian way. Read doc comes with it.)
Apply flavour patch prior to use for best result if you use old debian
source packages or kernel from kernel.org.
Kernel header is not needed for this task.
Of course, get g

Well, patching t
Hi All,
I never needed to compile the kernel until now. I have to patch the
kernel, and I would like to know what libraries, packages, programs
I need to have on my machine (except the kernel source an headers)
in order to do this?
I run potato 2.2r3 stable, and at isnstall time I mostly skipped
Nobody here answered my question about using kernel-patch .deb files, so
I'm going to answer myself. This way, anybody searching the list
archives will at least gain a little info and maybe get over this hump
more quickly than me. I have had a separate email exchange with Manoj

I'm told (in the kernel-package/README) that:
"If you're using the patch_the_kernel facility, you may want to remove
step 2 and instead insert `--config=menuconfig' into the make-kpkg
command-line of step 4 (or perhaps use `xconfig' or `config' in place of
`menuconfi

What's really strange is that I've got this machine which SO 5.1a works
great on. In my laptop, however (and which I need for a presentation day
after tomorrow which I did in SO!), StarOffice errors.
Both boxes run the lat

Maybe this applies only to SO 5.1 (from StarDivision) and not to
SO 5.1a from Sun but I'm not sure about (I have
