PPP over null modem: no rcvd?

Last night, I had a PPP connection over null modem working perfectly. I was using it to install packages on a laptop over the modem on my desktop, after installing the potato base using floppies and setting up IP-Masquerate on the desktop. It worked flawlessly. This morning I can't connect. As f
