Would that be a 169.254.x.x address? Purge the zeroconf package if you
have it installed.

- used netinst to install a base etch system,
- used a generated list of installed packages from my old (dying) machine
to
install all the same packages,
- compiled an extra kernel from Debian sources using my old kernel confi
