Hi, I am having problems using netscape.
I am currently trying to use 4.76. The command
'netscape' (which ends up at
/usr/lib/netscape/base-4/wrapper) ends with this
result:
Netscape: Ignoring unsupported format code in mailcap

I have also tried netscape 4.77 with the same r
I am having trouble using the debian website.
Could someone use it to tell me where on the debian FTP server
I can find the package files (.deb files) for these
two packages:
libstdc++2.9-glibc2.1 2.91.66-4
libxpm4
Thanks

You need communicator it is in the non-free branc
Hello! I installed netscape-base-4_4.76-1.deb
and netscape-base-475_4.75-2.deb to try to get the
4.75 Netscape running.
However, I have done this and I do not seem to have a netscape
executable any more.
Are there other packages I need?
If so, what are they?

I think I had the same problem once, can't remember what solved it,
but I definitely found the cause of the problem. I think it had
something to do with files in /tmp or something like that. I am quite
sure there were some leftover files, just not sure where/which files.

Hello.
I'm running Slink and am having problems with netscape.
I have upgraded to 2.2.7, and upgraded netstd, netbase and sysutils as
recommended by the 2.2 upgrade guide at www.linuxhq.com.
I've installed the unsupported glibc2 version of communicator 4.51.
The problem is that I occasionally get B

Thanks for the time and info.

There are still two versions, although in dselect the name is too long and gets
cut
off in a screen which is 80 chars wide. You need the static (statically linked
to
motif libraries, to be specific) version unless you've purchased motif and have
it
installed on your system.

I used dselect to install all the communicator programs and it will not
load. I had this problem with the dynamic version in an old installation
but the static version seemed to work . In the latest builds there dose
not seem to be these two versions.
How can I get this product on line?

Hi,
I tried to install netscape 4.04 on my system but the .deb package tells me,
that libg++27 is not installed and xpm4.7 also.
What should I do ?
Finally what deb package do You recommend and what netscape version should I
use ?
Please help me.

Thanks to Patrick, and all for help here.
In earlier debugging, I had inadvertantly deleted /etc/X11/X, and made
this a symbolic link to the xserver (hard-linked to /usr/X11R6/bin/X).
This is a good way to hose your setup with the wrapper! It's nice to
see that Debian will just plain refuse to r

There is no file named Xwrapper. I think you're trying to do something the
RedHat way and not the Debian way. In this case it doesn't matter which is
better or worse, but you can't use distribution specific

distribution CD, using dselect (original install) and dpkg

I'd try reinstalling X, then getting the Netscape installer
deb package (there used to be one, you have to grab netscape
off a Netscape site then install the .deb).
You can reinstall packages by having the .deb file available
(in the current working directory, or append the path to the
file name)

I have been having on and off problems with Netscape. Now it seems I
can't get the problem to go away. Netscape will load but it will not go
anywhere or do anything except it takes up 100% of my processor time and
won't close unless I kill -9 the process. I have tried every version of

I downloaded the debian package for Netscape 3.01 and also downloaded the

I can no longer get netscape to start, it starts to run then stops, leaving
no proccesses running and giving me no error messages as far as I can tell.
I even tried installing it again with the same problem, could it have to do

I just installed Netscape 3.01 for Linux, and it looks not bad. The
problem is screen sizes. I'm running XFree86 3.2 in 800x600 mode with the
fvwm95 manager, but whenever I open the mail window, it won't fit on the
screen. Not to mention that I can't figure out how to get past 256 colors.
P.S.
I downloaded what netscape delivers these days, only to find that I had
2.02 and the debian installation package wanted 2.01, so I downloaded the
source to debian-2.01 and set it up for 2.02. The installation went fine,
unlike when I tried to install it using the 2.01 package.
