how to write a message in Mutt. (So I've given up and used GMail

The problem: how do I write a message in Mutt *without* invoking the
postponed message menu first?
It seems that every time I press "m" for "compose a
OK, now when I;m in the index screen, and I want to use "q" to quit mutt.
I get an error about "open mailbox". I'm gessing that the last mailbox I
visited is still open. Is there some hook I can use to close an open
mailbox when I enter teh index?

never really tried it before and the comments here persuaded me to give it a
