No, i finally figured it out, and i thought i'd post the reasons so others
running into
this can find a solution without being at for days like me.
First i thought i messed something up with a dist-upgrade so i decided to do
a completely fresh install, sigh, and of course it turned out that wasn't

They play fine together. In fact there is really no need disable it.
If you have the USB 2.0, the modprobe succeeds. If not, the modprobe
errors out

meself to bits but no luck...i'm really lost on this one.
Sorry for such a big email with all the logs and such.

Well then, there is your problem. X 4 (which is in woody) uses a different

Hi,
I've just upgraded to Testing, using an apt-get dist-upgrade.
I had installed 2.2r0 and upgraded regularly but had used Helix
Gnome followed by Ximian 1.4. I had problems removing Ximian
and it took some time to get a working X server.
I can now start Gnome/icewm with startx but I can

I seem to have the same mouse - it's an OEM with a black logo, right? I read
on http://www-sop.inria.fr/koala/colas/mouse-wheel-scroll/, which has been
cited on this list severa

Try reading the repeated data from /dev/gpmdata. Yo
Maybe you should stop gpm before starting X.

Hello!
Recently I've installed Debian 2.2 potato. I tried to make my mo
use working under X but I can not. This is Logitech M-S48a PS/2
mouse. It works great under gpm, but doesn't want even to move in
X. I selected PS/2 as a mouse protocol and /dev/psaux for device
(it works for gpm). What ca
hi all,
I just installes XFree 3.3.6 and all is working fine except one thing:
I used XF86Setup to configure my X and probed the configuration. All is
working but my mouse is no pointer but a black rectangle. I tried to use
several mouse configs but it won't work.
I have a Celeron 333 Mhz, 128 MB
Thanks, now that I've got the gpm fifo working, this solution
works perfectly.

I like easy ones (-:
as root cd to /dev. then type ln -s ttyS? mouse, where ? is the com
port your mouse is on. If it is a ps/2 mouse use psaux instead of
ttyS?. Then put /dev/mouse back in the XF86Config file.

HI!
I installed the Debian 2.0 Hamm distribution yesterday on an old i386. I
thought I got the brand new stable version, but I encoutered problems with
the X server installation : not all the required files or directories were
correctly installed, so I had to complete by hand. Now it seems almost
