Just adding the 3 you mention was not enough,
I had to also add 2 more for a total of 5
new lines to /etc/modules:
ohci-hcd
mousedev
I have no idea why, but now the ps2 mouse works.

reboot to your new kernel image then load:
psmouse (not mouseps)
