At a console please run:
% ps aux | grep -i getty
and post the output.
Two possibilities I can think of off the top of my head are;
1. that your system has been configured for dial-in access, in which case
mgetty or some similar program will be running (hence the above); or
2. your mo
When I have killed all pppd, after running poff, when we pick up to
answer a phone call, we are getting a modem screech, which we have to
physically remove the line to get rid of.
I use modem lights to dial in, or alternately pon. Previously, I had
configured ppp to "persist" when disconnected; h
