installed debian 3.0 on it and now it is a double boot computer.

I installed Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 (potato) on my PC but
when I tried to configure my internet connexion (by
wvdial) my modem was not detected.
I have an internal Motorola SM56 internal modem.
I noticed that 'wvdial' tried to detect the modem only
on the serial ports 'ttyS0' and 'ttyS1'.

Use modconf and add the serial module. It's under misc on the modconf
menu.
