Downgrading to jessie is not an option as I have other stuff that requires
newer libraries, hence the original need for stretch.
Should one simply create a symbolic link from libssl.1.0.2 to libssl.1.0.0?
Would that even work?
I don't understand why library dependencies do

different for this very reason.

So libraries aren't my problem. The MxEasy software is a security camera
management and DVR software.
It starts and runs just fine, except there is no video. It keeps a running
count of the frames/sec coming in, so I know it's seeing the video, but when I
open a window in front of it and bri

Begorrah! It worked. All libraries are installed, but still no video.
# ldd MxEasy
linux-vdso.so.1 => (0x7fff753ff000)
libmxm.so

And the kicker is that libsdl1.2debian (no -all) which I have
installed, has these exact files with these exact names as well. So
I think the software is looking for the package name with -all, and
when it doesn't find it it fails. I overrode dependencies and
installed it anyway, but inexplic

I looked for libsdl1.2debian-all in Debian's packages and found it in
Squeeze and Sid, but not Testing. Technically this MxEasy package is
for Ubuntu, but I've never had a problem like this before.

calling for, but I can't rememb

I am trying to install Mobotix's MxEasy security camera software, but it's
refusing for dependency:
# dpkg -i /home/bill/dl/MxEasy_1.3.2-ubuntu-10.10_amd64.deb
Selecting previously deselected package mxeasy.

Applications from unstable will require libraries from unstable, that's

Hello,
I'm quite a newbie to Linux, however it has become my
primary OS. I get caught in pitfalls with regards
library dependencies. I'd appreciate if someone could
give me pointers on how I can avoid these.
I'm using Debian 2.2 and a few of the packages I want
to install re

Hi,
I went ahead and got the newer version. I installed it and it seems to be
working
now. it's at...
ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/communicator/4.5/english/unix/unsupportedlinux20
glibc/complete install/ and then you're in the dir. with the newer version and
instructions. Good luck!

There is a libc6 version of NS Communicator on ftp.netscape.com.
As you go deeper in the path, select the 'unsupported' branch when
you come to it. The libc6 based Communicator tarballs h
Hi,
Further to this problem: I assumed that netscape is libc5 only, and
redirected library loads to /usr/lib/libc5-compat (using
LD_LIBRARY_PATH). This found the libc5 versions of most libraries, and
the libg++.so.27 and libstdc++.so.27 that are ONLY in the libc5
directory. But this showed that a

Hi,
I have just downloaded and installed Netscape 4.5 and found these
missing libraries reported as errors when I try to run it:
libg++.so.27
libstdc++.so.27
However, I do have the libraries libg++.so.2.7.2.8 and
libstdc++.so.2.7.2.8 and the links libg++.so.272 and libstdc++.so.2
