My debian etcg 32bit has experienced twice an X-system failure to start
following
#apt-get upgrade
In both cases recovered, though error messages are presented.
The X-system is first started alone with
$startx
with /home/me/.Xsession

I have little troubles (again).
I want to open a .pdf.
But konqueror always starts "kghostview" (even if I change the file
associations to "xpdf").
And since kghostview cannot handle .pdf's, it would be preferable to start
xpdf, with (as its name suggest) can.

Hello everyone
I have a problem running KDE, namely that it crashes on startup. The
contents of .xsession-errors is
kcontrol: error in loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libkdeui.so.2: undefined
symbol: setPalette__9QLineEditRC8QPalette
kaudioserver: error in loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/li
When I run kde as a normal user and change the panel settings, it is not saving
them. Is there a way to kde to remember the changes I make the next time I
login?

I somehow managed to get things in an annoying state. I've been trying to
install kde. I got the .deb files from the kde site and tried to install
them. Somewhere along the line things got screwed up. I had the wrong
version of qt installed (I had 1.40 and kde required 1.42) so things
woul
n't like fvwm95
and I assume the NEXT Step clone take a lot of mem too.

I believe an easier (and more debian-proper) way to do this is edit
/etc/X11/window-managers and altering it so that /usr/X11R6/bin/kde is at the
top of the list.

The last line of ~/.xinitrc (or .xsession, if you use xdm) is probably
something like
exec fvwm95
find the "startkde" command (via locate or whereis or whatever) and change
the above to
exec s
I installed KDE on the Debian 2.0 Beta. During configuration, dselect
indicated that KDE was being installed as one of the Window Manager
options. However, this apparently failed.
How is KDE started? I would really like to give it a try.
