Have you installed libsmbclient? For me, 'ldd /usr/lib/kde3/kio_smb.so' showed
that it was linked against libsmbclient, which kdebase-kio-plugins doesn't
depend on for some reason.

installed. I have two shares (exported via Samba on FreeBSD) mounted. When
