I don't think you want netscape 3.
I tried using apt-get to install netscape. It prompted me to insert my potato
CD. Then I got this error msg durring the install.

Just run pppconfig as root and then use pon to start the connection and
poff to stop it. You can use plog to monitor the state of the connection.
If you need a GUI, install gpppon.
If you run into any problems
I have a CD from Maximum Linux Magazine which
lists Netscape 6.
I don't yet have a connection to the internet from
the Linux side.
Does anyone have any tips on iinstalling and
configuring Netscape.

Using the three original CDs I've issued the command
apt-get install netscape
it starts installing netscape3 to stop after a wh

Howdy,
I just installed a new Debian box which needs to have Netscape (preferably
6.01).
Unfortunately both version 6.01 and 4.76 seem to depend on
libstdc++-libc6.1-2.so.2
and all I have is
libstdc++-libc6.1-2.so.3
Any idea how to fix this? I tried linking .2 to .3 and running ldconfig

apt-get install netscape-browser-

apt-get install netscape-smotif-472
or whatever version you want. Search for the exact packages at
the debian web site.

I read somewhere that if I put the Netscape gz file in /tmp then dselect
will figure out to install it. That doesn't do it. I'm trying to install

I haven't gotten M14 to work on my box either, the main problem you'll run
into if you're running slink is that M14 need a newer version of some of the
libc files... so with out upgrading those I'm not sure it can be made to run...

Hi Debianites
I can't quite figure out how to install Moz M14.
I d'led the
mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-M14-talkback.tar.gz,
which is supposed to be a binary of the M14
(according to Mozilla.org), and I figured out how
to untar/zip it to a dir, but what then?
How do I "tell" X to use this instead of

What works for me is downloading the netscape from the netscape site (for linux
version) and installing it according to their instructions.

(although there is a lesstif free
alternative..) you should get a full install using either the netscape3 or
netscape4 packages.
im not a new debian user but i am for sure a new apt user..by running
apt-get install netscape it showed me everything that was a netscape
package..
i dont use the .deb though
I'm confused on how to install Netscape using the available Debian packages.

Anything ending in .gz is a GZIPped file. Anthing ending in .tar is a
