Does anyone have experience using drac with courier-imap and exim?
Or, is there some other recommended solution to allow relaying from
imap clients.
I'm not thrilled with the prospect of patching and recompiling
courier-imap. I'd much rather rely on the prepackaged .debs. (Debian

The quick answer: most IMAP server are not that hard to set up.
I've dome it like this:
"Getmail" pulls messages from the POP3 server, puts them into a maildir mail store,
although you can use mbox too. If fetchmail does the same thing, that's fine.
Exim handles SMTP "smarthost" as you describe.
