if this shouldn't work, perhaps it's a python app or something similar.
If so, than e.g. killall python.
Both no output and nothing happens - the sound still hearable.

With kill you are able to send various signals to processes (you can
find all available signals with "man 7 signal").
With no further arguments, "kill PID" sends a S
in the background - its sound hearable too.
