I actually found a horribly convoluted way of installing Debian
without breaking Mac OS 9.2.2. However, my G3 does apparently have
hardware support for large disks. I can partition the whole disk
from Tiger and Mac OS 9.2.2 can still be installed and
I blogged about this a couple of years back. (Fedora, rather than
Debian.) You may have discovered this all the hard way by now, but
I'll post the link anyway:

Powerbook (aka Kanga aka 3500). I have tried different Debian (and
Debian-based) distros but without any success. I am using BootX. The first

Upon boot-up the BIOS detects all 3 GB, but once I boot into Linux it
only registers as 900264 KB.
Similar situation,
HP Proliant DL140 with 2GB RAM,
I think Sarge saw only <1GB until kernel 2.6.8-2-686 was installed.
