I'm trying to use X fonts that actually correspond to the size of my
display. XFree86 4 is good about letting you specify the physical
size of your display in the XF86Config file, and reporting that as the
display resolution via xdpyinfo. So far, so good; on my laptop, it
tells me I have 123x124

-Where can I set what kind of fonts/characters I use under X? (I mean I'd
like to use hungarian characters like "รก".)
-Is there a chance I can simply change this while running X? (4xmpl if I
write a letter to an englishman and I don't like to use these "special"
characters.)

I have had the same problems. You can try using my ~/.Xdefaults if you like.
Find them at http://www.moonkhan.org/z/Xdefaults
The special font used for the bookmarks I believe is called 'clean.pcf' and can
be found at http://x.themes.org (I think)

icons of gmc,etc...
