Cool, I'll try this ASAP. BTW I also tried turning connection down:
$ sudo ifdown eth0
but still firefox won't start. I found only one other user reporting
the issue:

removing:
- Reset toolbars/controls
- Reset bookmarks to Firefox defaults
- Reset all user preferences...

Also try checking in the system monitor to see if it is already a running process. I know for me when firefox crashes (this happens often for me and no body can tell me why!) sometimes it is left running as a process and I can't start a new session of the browser until I end the old process.
