External Serial Modem in Debian

Hey everybody, Thanks for all the help you guys have given me. I now have my linux working good, with WordPerfect 8. I still don't have my modem working, and I am clueless. It's an external PnP 3Com 33.6 Sportser. Is it possible to get external PnP modems working? I'm using Debian 2.1 Slink.
