I am one of many who support an international academic institute. One thing I
am
truly pleased about in our system is the ability for kdm (KDE's version of the
xdm
login manager) to offer a selection of window managers at login time. This
allows
users to select their prefered window manager.
Note: I am a debian developer, but I'm not speaking for debian as a whole
here. I'm simply making prediction based on how debian handles any software
that is allowed into our distribution. Nothing I say here is really specific
to KDE and gnome - if you had asked about qmail and sendmail, my respons
