Thanks to all your tips I've been able to atleast make the printer (and
Linux) realize there are jobs to be printed. It even does color under
Linux. Only problem left is the thing spits out blank pages if I'm printing
from a Winblows station through Samba. In the past, I've had a DeskJet 520
workin

Either use dj550c-filer or use the ghostscript hpdj filter (magic
filter included).

It works well to configure using magicfilter, as a laserjet 4.
And for color, you can configure another printer as a Deskjet 550c, though
it's not convincing---it does work though. There exists a driver for
dj 850, though I was unable to get it to compile (incompetence on my part).
