This was a problem with the kernel scsi code and was fixed in
newer versions. You need a newer kernel to install.

Do you happen to have an athlon??? If you do, yo should try booting with
the tecra-image, they should work fine!

I am still attempting to install debian 2.1 onto an
HP Vectra Xu box with SCSI disks. The boot from the
resc1440 floppy fails after the "RAMDISK: Compressed
image found at block 0"
