Why are you using dip? I've never used it. I always use pppd with a
chatscript. Is there an advantage to using dip that I'm unaware of?

I also didn't spot that there is now a PPP Howto
However my real problem turned out to be that my dip script was setting
the data rate too high! }:-(

I have installed Debian 1.2.5 on a virgin system and want to configure
the PPP network device.
I have recompiled the kernel and get the right sort of messages during
boot up.
I can 'ifconfig dummy' and 'ifconfig lo' to install the dummy and
loopback, however a 'ifconfig ppp' gives me an error of
3 matches
