It should be UTF-8, but that doesn't mean it's not broken. The text documentation is generated automatically via html2text, and that's been buggy at various points, particularly with regards to encodings -- unless you have a specific reason for wanting plain text, I'd suggest using the HTML docu

Hi, When I look at the Aptitude manual (/usr/share/aptitude/README) using 'less' (in Xfce4 Terminal), I get undisplayable characters, shown as ''. 'file' says that the charset is 'ISO-8859 English text', so I tried preceding the 'less' invocation by 'LESSCHARSET=iso8859', and those characters are
