Anyway to change the password for debian-sys-maint

Hi I restored a backup for my mysql table however in doing so "debian-sys-maint" no longer has access to start/stop/restart/check mysqld. I thought that if I change the mysql password for debian-sys-maint this would solve it but it seems there is a password stored somewhere on the machine. Anyw
