In the kernel is a driver for the aha 152x, so it should work.
In other words you stand a chance and it is possible!

I second that. I have an Adaptec 3940UW board (essentially two 2940UW
cards in one) and two IBM Ultrastar 9ES 9.1 GB drives in the server.
They're excellent performers.
