This is true of the 2940UW but not the newer 2940UW Pro. It can support all
three simultaneously. Only drawback is expense.

Gary, thanks a lot for your reply. I'd like to seek another advice
then.

Yes, if it's a 2940UW it has 3 connectors: an internal wide connector,
an internal narrow connector and an ex

Does it have internal 50-pin connector as well? I'm thinking of bying
this card second-hand, and can't find this info on Adaptec's web-site.
Does this card have a solid reputation? My current SCSI card is not
very well supported under Linux, so this is a "forced" upgrade. I'm

What device(s) did you use on the card?
Lawrence,
I combined a 2.0.27 kernel with a 2.0.11 scsi folder,
and solved my problems for now. It seems that those
kernels that work access the wide scsi disk with 10.0 MHz,
while those that fail insist on accessing with 20.0 MHz
as scsi-2. In addition to a picky aic7xxx driver that
declines to fall back o

Hogwash.
I've got 9 or 10 of these cards deployed. All of the machines are running
2.0.29 without a single problem. I've never
Not Debian only (was an issue with rescue problems, though).
I have a SCSI setup that runs perfectly with kernels
like 1.3.88. It includes an Adaptec 2940 UW, BIOS v1.23,
1996 (PCI), and an IBM DORS wide SCSI disk.
Repeat: the hardware worked for months,
this is NOT a cable/termination

It is an msdos filesystem, and the kernel is in the file "linux". The root
filesystem is a gzip-compressed Minix RAM

The hardware works fine with 1.3.88 up to 2.0.0. It does not work

The current resque disk does not work with my
Adaptec 2940 UW. This does not surprise me,
as none of the Kernels above 2.0.12 (up to 2.0.27)
I tried did work. An small remark in a README in
an otherwise useless RedHat stated that Adaptec
support is partially broken since 2.0.12.
