If you want to use the kernel policies, look at the files
in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq.
You can see which governors are available:
$ cat scaling_available_governors
ondemand userspace performance
Also which governor is currently active:
$ cat scaling_governor
performance
And of co

I don't think that is the case--at least, not in stock Debian kernels.
I have an Athlon XP 1700+, and it idled at 45C until I installed
athcool. Now it idles below 40C, sometimes as low as 30-32C in cooler
weather.
I have to agree, my Athlon 64 3200+ runs at least 5-10c cooler in Windows

Try the powernowd - it works very well. It has an aggressive feature which
will skyrocket processor herz's, thus limitign the performance losses. It
should be in debian sid (or experimental).

Hi,
I have AMD Sempron 2200 processor on ASRock motherboard. my linux box is
debian-sarge. I have found some utilities to cool down the processor
temperature. some utilities warn having a performance loss like *noisy sound*,
*poor hard-disk response*, etc. etc. may happen during its operation.
