I havn't looked through all your attachments, but do remember on my upgrade
from Woody, through Sarge, and to Etch, having to add 8139too
to /etc/modules.
It's going back a bit now, but may have had something to do with the change
from the 2.4.27 kern

I just get a kernel clean, without any change (.tar.bz2), and
recompiled from scratch using my conf file, and the module
8139too.c worked fine, without any problems.

I've been using this driver ever since I got myself soem cheap 100MB cards
and it worked flawlessly so far. But today I tried upgrading an old machine
from 2.2.18 to 2.4.2 and it freezes upon initialization of that driver, no
