Which 2.6 kernel are you trying to use? There are at least fifteen
different ones. :) I suggest trying the latest one in Debian that you can
use (some require newer versions of things like udev, which you might or
might not want to upgrade [I've had no problems with 2.6.15]).

seen it discussed, but NOT fixed. (If I'm wrong, and used the wrong search
terms or something, I'm open to links.)
I have a Logitech wireless mouse, 4 button, with a scroll wheel. It works
fine on Windows and Linux -- as long as I use the 2.4 kernel. Once

The 2.6.8 kernel doesn't support SATA very well.
Is there a way to install Debian using the 2.6 kernel with a SATA drive? So far
it goes through the install then when the CD is removed it boots up to a
"Diskboot failure enter system disk" message.
Is there a way to install Debian using the 2.6 kernel with a SATA drive?

Hello,
I'm running debian unstable with the 2.4.27-2-k7 kernel image. I'm
trying to upgrade to 2.6.12-3-multimedia-k7, which is a kernel image
from an AGNULA/DeMuDi apt source. After apt-getting and rebooting, it
fails att bootup. I get the following message:
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq

I recently upgraded my kernel from 2.4 to 2.6.14, and now openoffice
freezes whenever I try to open a document, or to start a new
one. When I boot into the old 2.4 kernel, it works fine.
Any suggestions?
I tried looking through the list of openoffice bugs. I didn't see
anything related, though

installing Sarge with the 2.6 kernel, and the mouse movement was inconsistent

got the same thing. After a lot of research I found out that there was a
change in the 2.
Hi again Jan and all,
Very thanks, my custom 2.6.12-5 won't panic now! I'm happy :)
The only issue left is usb transfer: I can't compile a kernel that will
upload files to my mp3 usb player as fast as the 2.6.8 k7 debian stock.
Using the k7 I get ~800kbps, but my customs only do ~90kbps.
Anyway

Yup.
Don't forget to add support for your chipset
(VIA, SiS, etc).
Regards.

Hi Jan,
So here is some more to look for:
Are the following block devices compiled into your kernel:
IDE, BLK_IDE, BLK_DEVB_IDEDISK, IDE_GENERIC, BLK_DEV_IDEPCI,
BLK_DEV_GENERIC, BLK_DEV_IDEDMA_PCI, IDEDMA_PCI_AUTO
+ the driver for the chipset used in your pc?
You mention
