When I log in using Gnome, login-time shell initialization doesn't seem to have taken place (as if nothing invoked bash with -login). More specifically: - In gdmlogin, I select Gnome Session and log in. - I start an xterm (either from a window manager menu or from the Gnome menu bar at the top)
