I just did a fresh install of testing with XFCE. After entering the login credentials the screen was black for 30-60 seconds before the desktop environment showed up. Assuming a bug in XFCE, I performed another fresh install with MATE, but a similar effect occured: after login the background image

I've had trouble to install the new laptop-net package from unstable
(2.7.1).
I've had to purge the former install, touch a file
(/etc/default/laptop-net), and select non-debconf maintained handling of
schemes and other configuration files in order to be able to install
it.

ok, i just loaded linux after w95 for the first time. i know very
little about linux or unix for that matter and i'm having a real problem
- 95 will not 'recognize' LILO, and boots right into 95. i didn't have
