I installed tbird 78.12.0 (64-bit) and it can't find my email passwords. I have browsed signons.sqlite and the passwords seem to be there in the middle of the db. I have tried to install a prior version of tbird but dpkg has thwarted those efforts so far! Any other ideas suggestions would be apprec
When dpkg tries to build a new initrd my system crashes. how can I stop dpkg from trying to build a new initrd so I can do some other apt things to fix my system?Many TIA!!!Dennis

I had a drive crash and it had a little bit of a LVM volume on it. The
drive that contains most of it still survives.
Can anyone quickly outline what to do to get the survivor attached to
LVM and
working again? LVM has completely forgotten about it.

I regularly use the -a option in unzip to fix DOS/Windows
line endings and have never had a problem. Until yesterday
and today!
Today it treated everything as a binary file and all the
text/ascii files still had ^M at the end of each line.

My system hung and I had to reset it. Now gnome won't
come up when I boot.
I get a screen that has a little window in it that
says something about it can't find a system with
XDMCP(?) running.
I have tried giving it the address of my machine
in every form I can think of to no avail.

There is something wrong and the xserver won't come up.
All it says is "I cannot start the X server" and some other
general stuff. I have tried running dpkg-rec
