Web browser cannot see due to proxy server?

Hi, I have Debian set up and run. I can ping to any address and get replies. And I also set up proxy server name and port number exactly same as Windows which I am writing this mail, now. But any browser reject saying 'proxy server may be not set right'. I asked the server administrator if Linux
