I wrote some lines of codes like the following to verify if my
gcc
could work.

Then I typed "gcc-3.1 t2.c" in and it said "/usr/bin/ld:Can't

an initial console.Kernel panic :No init found .Try passing init=option

I managed install the debian into the virtual disk.
My partition table is
/dev/sda1 (boot)4080(blocks) 83
/dev/sda21904640(blocks) 83
/dev/sda3 139264(blocks) 82
But my mount table is
/dev/ram0 on / ext2
/proc on /proc
When I installed the base file system,I make an image of
basedebs.tar.But after the basedebs.tar had been extracted ,it said
"/dists/woody/Release was not pre-downloaded".I have downloaded the
Release where shall I put the Release?

where shall I put the Release?

I want to install debian into my i386 machine.After I boot the
installing from the image rescue.bin,it prompts that "Insert root floppy
disk to be loaded into RAM disk and press ENTER".Then I switched the
image onto boot.bin.But it prompted "end_request:I/O error, dev
02:00(floopy),sector 0" .what'
When I type "dpkg -i *deb",it says "ldconfig" not found on
PATH;"start-stop-daemon" not found on PATH;
"update-rc.d" not found on PATH.It seemed that I have not installed
those tools in my machine ,where can I found these packages and what are
the full name of these packages?

I have done as you directed .But when I install .deb packages,it always
says "failed to open package info file "/var/lib/dpkg/status" for
reading:no such file or directory".Can you help me?

Is there any CLI audio file editor for debian (linux)?
What i want is something, preferably a command line program,
able of splitting a .mp3/.wav/.ogg file into smaller files, so i could
, let's say, get a 72" mp3 and split it into 6min mp3, more suitables

Howdy all! I'm trying to get Debian installed on my new system. It is an
800Mhz Athlon on an Asus motherboard. Anyways, when I try to boot off of
the CD(I have Debian 2.1 CDs from LSL, and a 2.1 CD from the Sams book),
the boot up never finishes.
The line where it stops reads:
