My laptop has an expansion port containing a 3c509b ethernet card.
The 2.2 kernel, LTSP boot disk & windows recognise this as
io 0c300 irq 10 & work.
The 2.4.20 kernel recognises it as 0x220 irq 5 & doesn't
2.4 kernel says it uses isapnp but I cannot run it from root or find it or
find a isapnp.

recompiled, reinstalled the kernel package, and rebooted. Eth0 grabbed
an IP address without a hitch!
The usual caveats apply; YMMV, try this at your own risk, etc, but
CONFIG_FILTER=y did the trick for me.

Just set up a new (to me) laptop. It finds its DNS over dhcp when booting

Many thanks for your help

Cannot get anything to print direct to lp or lpr. I can get it to print to
lp -d lp@host no problem.
I appear to have the default printer set to lp & am working (initially)
from that host. I can move the default to another printer but this
makes no difference.

I've installed the Linux Terminal Server .debs on my file server & I'm
trying to run an old machine from it. I have got the DHCP working & the
terminal is finding its address & asking for the kernel but then nothing.
I've installed TFTP & it is in inetd.conf & services but I think it isn't

Set up Apple lazerwriter print to file has worked perfectly for me since I
was recommended to it as the best "straight" ps printer driver.

which ones do I need if emu10k1 isn't going to work?

I've got a deb 2.4 system (testing) working fine & my soundblaster live
card is working fine as far as playing is concerned. It will take inputs
from wav files & line inputs & play them no problem. I am also using aumix
without problems.
I cannot persuade it to record from any source to file.

I feel I am missing something simple here but...
I need the source code for a few standard bits Kernel & PCMCIA bits to
compile a driver for a PCMCIA card. I would expect to find it on the
Debian site but can't.
Can anybody tell me where it is
(Deb Testing 2.4 kernel)
Steve
No, not as simple as that. Hosts makes no difference. I am running a dns
server on my fileserver & pointing my win machine at it. It gets all other
ip numbers correct both on the network & on the internet.
As entering ip Nos works I'll live with that for a while.

If I enter IP numbers instead of server name in Eudora away it goes.

Got (cyrus) imap working on my linux box & can connect into it from other
linux boxes. Can't get into it from eudora on my windows box.
Are there any Samba issues ( or any similar things I have missed) samba is
working between the two hosts for printing & home directories only.

Yes that did it. Thanks very much.
Sorry for the delay in replying but as it turned out I had problems
talking to imap from within my system so I left pop3 going till I had
sorted them.
