When I try to run 'gtk-config --prefix', the system

Hi,
I have been trying out xvkbd and gok. In terms of
customising, gok is better but still requires
manipulation of a text file.
I came across highly customisable virtual keyboard
called MountFocus, but it is for Windows only.
Is there something along this line available for
Linux, at least with
Hi
I am new to programming in C and X Window. My web
search for a programming environment brought me to
xwpe, a package for X Window Programming Environment.
The GUI is quite basic and I am not able to increase
the font size. Is this the best for what I intend to
do or are there better ones?

I am currently using xvkbd. Great, except that it
won't allow me to create new keys. Is there an
on-screen keyboard which allows user to-add on keys
which can hold a single or a string of symbols?

Hi,
Thanks for the reference to udev. I have managed to
get hold of a web doc titled "Writing udev rules" and
started grappling with writing rules. The first wall I
encounter is that the default rule file mentioned in
the doc is not even in my dirs. Is there a write-up
more suitable for Debian?
I am having a problem with changing device-event
number. I have a usb mouse and a usb tablet. On
boot-up, the mouse is mouse0, event1 and the tablet is
mouse1, event2. Once I go online with my usb ADSL
router, the mouse becomes mouse1, event2 and the
tablet is mouse2, event3. And this causes both d

Hi folks,
Since my discourse about free software last month, I
had installed Debian GNU/Linux Sarge on one partition
of my harddisk while retaining WinXP in another.
Starting with the maxim "To beat MS you have to be as
good as, if not better than, MS", I am constantly

Hi,
When I tried to use the Search in the Debian page, I
was directed to Google. This is inefficient. Is the

Hi,
I'm still toying with the idea of fully replacing Windows w Debian GNU/Linux. The doubt I am still having is this: will I be able to use all the data that I had created under Windows, those documents, emails, images, audios and videos? Anyone has done a complete and successful conversion? Wil
Hi,
This Fedora project is developing along the same line as Debian i.e. community-base, open-sourced. What's more, It is supported by RedHat.
Anybody has any opinion about it? Is it better than Debian?

Hi,
MS boss was reported to have warned Asians govts that they could face IPR-infringement lawsuits for using Linux.
How was the outcome of the case betweeen SCO and IBM? Will it be the end of Linux as open-source if SCO wins?
BTW, if SCO sues Debian, will Debian have the resources to fight
Hi,
As mentioned in my previous mail, I'll run a dual-OS system. Since l have only one drive, I'll divide it into two partitions, one for Win XP and one for Debian. I think this is a good way to start off. When one fails, I can use the other to troubelshoot via the Web. I forsee doing this a l
Hi,
Sorry that my previous mail had raised a furore. Let's get back to the topic of 'free software'. There's a wider perspective to free software which requires deeper analysis.
Free software is not always developed free of charge. In many cases, a recent example being Firefox, they require do
Hi,
I',m impress. The responses to 'why debian' show that it has won some strong converts and it is supported by some staunch loyalists. I need to know more. There was mention about "never for profit", "protected non-profit". It is compared to US democracy and monasteries in medieval England.
Hi,
Read all the responses to "Why debian".
My summary:
1. It is free, w/o any non-free components.
2. It can be easily updated and upgraded.
My questions:
1. Is it free because it is not popular? If its user base keep growings, will there not be a temptation to commercialise it? That's how
Hi,
There are so many distros out there its confusing. Any reason(s) why Debian should be the preferred choice?
Any statistics from any source(s) to proof the popularity of Debian?
I'm in the dark waiting to be enlightened.
