It now boots without problem with only
'append="root=/dev/mapper/vg-root"'.
BTW, I don't understand why initrd's are not always embedded in the
kernel. It seems to have
"root=..." option (see higher).
Are you sure your initrd is being found?
I guess, but I'm not sure. LILO prints "LILO 22.8 Loading Linux[dots][a
space][dots][return]" with that config; if I remove the "initrd=" line, it
prints "LILO 22.8[dots][return]".
