I'm also seeing this, yesterday and today on unstable/sid. It does not
happen on every use of `sudo aptitude update`, only some.
In regards to issue #2:
I created an identical VM and performed an identical install, except for
one difference, I used ext4 instead of btrfs (for all of /, /boot and
/home). This install works fine.
I noticed that in the broken install, initramfs is missing cryptsetup.
