thanks, that fixes the problem. playing the vcd is a cpu-intensive activity. i was monitoring things w gkrellm, it shows a lot of cpu activity and the chip temp goes up fast. probably because i don't have a plug-in video card and relies on the on-board intel extreme graphics. hja -
