Peter,
I had a similar problem once. Check the file /etc/inetd.conf
My had been overwritten once when upgrading a while back. Make sure the
services you want to allow are enabled.

2 quick questions:
1 - Is the Matrox Millennium supported by XFree86 in Debian 3.1 Stable?
If so, which X server needs to be loaded?
2 - Has anyone been able to compile Satan under Linux? I get errors
during compilation. Am I missing some libraries?
Thanks in advance.

Hi.
I just reinstalled Debian. All works well except xdm. I am able to
manually run startx, but when xdm runs at boot, it never displays the

I have a box running Debian 1.2. Lately, it hangs on boot when trying
to start named.
If I boot from floppy, disable named, reboot, re-enable it and reboot,
it then starts without a problem.
Any ideas?

Anyone running a debian-based firewall out there?
Does anyone have any experience with the TIS firewall toolkit package
for Debian? How about setting up firewalling in the kernel?
What are the pros and cons of each method for building a Linux firewall?
Thanks.

Can anyone recommend an affordible, external tape drive supported by
Linux / Debian?
Any word on Iomega or Sony's portable tape drives (using parallel port)?
Performance is an issue but price is more important.
Thanks.
