Cannot umount cdrom

I have a cdrom mounted as "mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom" When I am finished with it as either a local mount or nfs mount I cannot umount it. I get the message it is busy. I cd / to get out of the directory but no go! Somewhere there is a command to override this error message but I cannot
